Rolled Tractor-Trailer Lands On Car, Shuts Down Thruway In Capital Region For Hours

One person is hospitalized after a tractor-trailer rolled on the Thruway, striking another vehicle and shutting down the highway for hours during the morning commute.

The wreck happened just before 8 a.m. Thursday, May 23, on I-87 in Albany.

New York State Police said the tractor-trailer collided with a passenger vehicle in the northbound lanes near Exit 23.

A photo shared by the agency shows the truck on its right side, blocking most of the roadway and the cab resting on the center median.

It was not immediately clear how many people were injured, but at least one victim suffered serious injuries, police said.

All northbound lanes of I-87 were still closed at Exit 23 as of 2 p.m. One southbound lane was also closed near the scene.

State Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the agency at 518-457-6811.
